About
Youth Democracy Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of civic leaders across the Washington, DC metropolitan region. We help young people build leadership, confidence, and teamwork through real-world civic learning experiences. Our programs are non-partisan, hands-on, and grounded in Virginia education standards.
We collaborate with school districts, community organizations, and churches to provide interactive civic education and real-world advocacy opportunities. By preparing young leaders to navigate and shape their communities, YDI is building a future where young people are active, engaged, and ready to lead.
At Youth Democracy Institute, democracy inspires young people to develop leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, building stronger communities in and beyond the classroom.
Our Mission
Our mission is to educate, empower, and equip young people (ages 10-24) with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead civic change in their communities and beyond.

We envision a future where every young person, by age 24, is a confident and engaged leader, driven by civic responsibility and committed to shaping a better world.
